In the daylight anywhere feels like home

4/13/10 7:48 AM

It was awhile back that I flaunted my new love for Matt & Kim after seeing them perform @ Reverb, and Daylight is resurfacing yet again. This time for the use of a stop motion short video my very best friend SMT has created, with the help of Isabel, Caitlin and I, for her final project for Ideas & Images in her second year @ George Brown for graphic design. There are 685 images in this mother. She's immensely talented and we are planning to collaborate on many projects in the years to come. I'm so proud of your talent and accomplishments SMT!

Watch, enjoy and bookmark her site for future reference. She's going to explode... not literally.

I know we suffer for fashion, or whatever

4/3/10 5:59 PM

Or a more sensible title: LGFW Fall/Winter 2010

I still think, suffer for fashion is equally appropriate, if not more so.

Off topic: I really want to see Of Montreal perform one of these days... I don't know why I haven't made it a top priority since I've been a huge fan for so long. I also just got a flashback of when I was getting lunch at a cafe across from the National Art Institute of Chicago two summers ago, and Oslo in the Summertime came on the radio, quietly in the background. Great moment.

The Power of Fashion

This season LGFW indeed marked another occasion to suffer for fashion, in the sense that as much as beautiful, leg-slimming high heels are fun to buy and admire, they are not fun to wear (for me at least). And yes, I suffered. #whitegirlproblems - an absurdly stereotypical trending topic on Twitter and my source of laughter and reminiscing of days I spent at UWO, mocking these exact girls.

My jam-packed work schedule for the week of LGFW, combined with the fact that I got sick, prevented me from seeing as many shows as I would have liked. I did make it out for the Buckler Fall/Winter 2010 Preview @ Nyood, Pink Tartan, Joe Fresh Style on Wednesday and Bustle on Thursday. I wasn't overly impressed with Pink Tartan, aside from a few pieces - hated the aviator hats worn by every model. Joe Fresh Style was well-worth the wait. It's exciting to see clothes coming down the runway that are actually affordable (and by affordable I mean dirt-cheap) and that I will actually look into purchasing when buying clothes for Fall is an item on my mind.

Bustle was a riot. It was quite entertaining, perhaps the most entertaining fashion show I've been to, ever. Mind you I've never been to fashion show outside of Toronto. Following David Dixon's Barbie show (which I was very disappointed to miss and made me wish the tents were still located at Nathan Phillips Square due to the inconvenience of getting to the Allstream Centre) the show was set around the theme of arriving at the hottest nightclub, complete with a model serving champaign while Evan Biddell and Stacey Mackenzie check the guest-list, while Jie Matar photographed and Jeanne Beker Tweeted from backstage.

  1. Just took a walk down the runway!!! Tooo nuts! Definitley need to leave now. Good night! xxxx
  2. Still on the runway and I feel totally silly! Thank God it's over!! But a VERY cool collection!
  3. http://twitpic.com/1cixxz - A girl without a shirt at Bustle!!!!!
  4. Pinstrip pants, velvet jackets, cool vests and a striped pea jacket...The guys are totally cute. GREAT MALE MODELS in T.O.!
  5. http://twitpic.com/1civry - My vantage point at the Bustle show!
  6. About to go on.... And I feel totally ridiculous!!! We're on!!!!! First model out!!!
  7. http://twitpic.com/1cip1g - Stacey getting into the groove for Bustle!!!!
  8. http://twitpic.com/1cio4n - Stacey getting her pants cut off by Shawn!!!!
  9. Shawn is actually cutting Stacey's pants off her!!!!! Making then into short shorts! OMG!!!! She's screaming; SHORTER!!
  10. Stacey's getting ready to go on. She's wearing a Bustle vest, and wants to go pant-less! Shawn's trying to dissuade her.
  11. Ruth and Shawn--Bustle's inspired designers--have whipped up a collection that is luxurious, slick, and SEXY!!!!!
  12. Joining me will be the fab Stacey MacKenzie, Evan Biddell, Jie, and Nicholas Mellamphy. Beautiful boys will strut it!!!!

Unfortunately I missed the Heart Truth show this season, but the dresses looked beautiful and the cause empowering & heartfelt. It was one of my favourite shows in 2008 when I attended with Fashion.

And here's me on day two, decked out in vintage, mostly. I really just love the setting, Isabel's beautiful west end apartment.

More LGFW pics to come.
